Hi there,
Can you make a video on how to connect the various AI assistants? Or can you provide step-by-step instructions on how to connect to Claude Code? The short description doesn't make much sense. That would be a great help for us.
Thank you.

Hi, thanks for asking! The AI connection is a Pro feature. It lets Claude Code or Codex look at, edit and build your project while the editor is open. Here’s how to set it up on Windows:
1. Install an AI assistant (only one is needed)
- Claude Code: you need a Claude Pro or Max subscription, or an Anthropic API account. Open PowerShell and run:
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex
Then typeclaudeonce and sign in. The Claude desktop app’s Code tab also works. - Codex:
npm install -g @openai/codex
Install the assistant before step 3. The setup looks for it and registers the editor with it.
2. Turn MCP on in the editor
Go to OPTIONS → MCP and set it to ON. The MCP-CON and RESET buttons appear.
3. Click MCP-CON
This runs the setup for you:
- It checks for Node.js 22 or newer. If Node.js is missing, it installs it, so allow the Windows prompt if one appears.
- It registers the editor with Claude Code and/or Codex.
- It pairs the editor, so there’s no key to copy.
Leave the editor open while this runs. You can hover over the button at any time to see what it’s doing.
4. Start (or restart) your assistant
Open Claude Code in any folder (or restart it if it was already running). In Claude Code, type /mcp. You should see c64-dev-machine in the list.
5. Go back to the editor
It connects by itself within a few seconds and the button turns green. Now you can ask things like:
“Use c64-dev-machine to show me a summary of my project” or “…add a comment node that says hello”.
Every AI edit can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
If it doesn’t work
- “No Claude Code or Codex command line was found”: install one (step 1), then click MCP-CON again.
- Node.js errors: install Node.js 22 or newer from nodejs.org, then click MCP-CON again.
- Stuck: click RESET, then MCP-CON again. A log file called
mcp-setup-log.txtis in%LOCALAPPDATA%\C64DevMachine_win. - Manual setup: open PowerShell in the editor’s install folder and run:
claude mcp add --scope user c64-dev-machine -- node "<install folder>\tools\cdm-mcp\bridge.mjs"
Then restart Claude Code.
A video is a good idea and I’ll look at making one. Hope this helps for now!
