Follow up question on the stairs/ladders: What about moving to the side? What movement are you trying to do? Are you turning left/right, or jumping to the side? Directional buttons shift the way you're facing, but I'm not seeing my character getting stuck. If you want to get off the ladder press the jump, if that's what you are trying to do.
