thanks for the feedback, I always have trouble coming up with keyboard controls. If you got any ideas for a better layout let me know!
Thanks for playing 🙏
no problem! I personally have favor towards WASD obviously lol, but additional controls like 'interact' or attacks for me could either be 'e' , 'q' , left click or right click, simply because people usually enjoy having a hand on the keyboard and a hand on the mouse, its how people are conditioned and is usually how their hands are already positioned when clicking on the game.
Controls of your game is your choice though! everyone plays games differently, i would recommend a keybind system in the settings, but it is confusing and time consuming so if all else fails just think about how easy it is to switch between controls for someone playing games for the first time, generally good practice to make games as clear as possible so even if this is your player's first game they can somewhat know what's happening, you dont have to hold their hand but while designing, programing and building a game just keep your target crowd in mind
playtesting is a great idea, hand your game to someone not involved and see if they're confused. overall, your game your controls, but typically people enjoy keybinds near the WASD keys
(to be fair this is in context of games that also use a mouse, i can see that you intent on they game being played with two hands, in this case it does make sense, but for future projects with a mouse its just some food for thought, sorry for yapping lol)
This is actually great feedback back, I did most of my play testing on the steam deck so the keyboard controls might have been a little neglected. and I can only bother my friends so many times to play test so this is where the real feedback comes from.
And yeah i think you’re right about adding some optional mouse controls or bindings if i can get it working right. But does feel weird using keyboard without the mouse especially when there are so many inputs and the most natural place for the other hand is on the mouse.
Definitely plan on working on this some more so all this feed back is really appreciated
