Just to add some context, that’s the default GB Studio scene transition and it’s based on how the original Game Boy display behaves.

On the original non-backlit LCD, the pixels fade back toward the screen’s natural background and the effect reads much more softly. On a modern backlit display or emulator, the same transition can look much brighter and harsher.

This makes a lot of sense. I wonder if it might be less of a flashbang in a palette without such a wide range in value, or with its brightest value closer to gray than white. Some grayscale palettes feel more like playing a hardware Game Boy, or well a Game Boy Pocket, and are less harsh than the default DMG green palette on a backlit display.
