Hey! Thanks for reaching out — I really enjoyed reading your message!

Don’t worry about not having previous video game writing credits. Screenlings Quest is still early in development, so we’re completely open to people who want to gain experience and build something with us.

We already have the core concept, some characters and parts of the world/lore planned, but there’s still a lot to develop. We’d especially love help with character dialogue, story chapters, worldbuilding, quests and narrative structure while keeping the existing direction and characters consistent.

Your screenplay experience could also be really useful for cutscenes and more cinematic story moments, and the DaVinci Resolve experience could definitely come in handy later for trailers and promotional material.

I’d be happy to have you join the project if you’re still interested! There’s no need to rush something out by Tuesday either — I’d rather we first show you what we already have and talk about the direction of the game, then build from there :)

Do you have a design document or story outline yet? If so, send it my way and I can go from there. If not, if you give me details, theme, tone, that kind of stuff, I can prepare something. I know its a gotcha game, but is it an RPG? Open world? Quests? Puzzle? Item descriptions? One protagonists or two? Etc.

Hey! We don't have a fully organized design document yet, but we already have quite a bit of the game, world and characters planned out, so I can put everything together for you.

The basic structure is a story-driven 2D gacha RPG. It isn't an open-world game. The player progresses through story chapters and stages, builds a team of Screenlings, fights enemies and bosses, unlocks new areas and characters, and experiences story scenes between/around stages.

Screenlings are digital beings inspired by screens, signals, devices and technology, but they're their own living characters with personalities, relationships and a society. Media City is one of the central locations.

We already have several characters and some important lore concepts planned, including Smarix, Dialyn, Cache, Patch, Ringer 33, Chromara, the Ancestors/Ancients and the Forgotten. We also have an early direction for Chapter 1, currently called “The Voice Below.”

Combat is planned around teams of 4 Screenlings with normal attacks, individual skills and ultimates, with stages containing waves of enemies and larger multi-phase bosses.

The tone should be colorful, expressive and funny during normal character interactions, but the story can become mysterious, emotional and more serious when dealing with old technology, forgotten Screenlings and the deeper history of the world. We don't want it to feel constantly dark or constantly comedic.

There's still a lot that isn't locked down yet, especially the exact story structure, quests, dialogue and how the chapters connect, which is where we'd love your help.

Rather than having you start completely from scratch, I think the best approach would be for me to put together everything that's already established into a design/story document first. Then we can build and expand the narrative together from there.

(1 edit)

Please do. If you can do that, I'll put to together some ideas and bounce them back to you to see what you think. I can go over already written work too if you like; proofread, edit etc. I can structure chapter one for you in a 3 act structure with plot points and character arcs  etc. Or we can build each mission as it's own standalone 3 act structure and them string them together sequentially to make an overarching story.

... Anyways, standing by :)
