the house becoming warmer while her body gets more alarmed is such a good contradiction. i also love the “habitable vs safe” distinction; that feels like the whole Bluebeard bargain in one design choice. was the slow re-grade when a Sister takes the front always part of the plan, or did it emerge while testing the subtler breathing?

Thank you, that's exactly the contradiction I was after. And yes, it was planned from the start. Everything else in the house (the breathing, the drifting grade, the light shifting with whoever wears her face) is tuned to stay deniable. The Sister re-grade is the one motion you're meant to catch. It only works because everything around it is so quiet: the subtle layer sets the baseline, and the slow crossfade is the only thing that breaks it. Glad it read that way!
