I agree that I really like the secondary theme interpretation. I feel like the basic concept is exactly on point with the themes of nostalgia that is gamboy+old gold. And the mood + story fit right in with that.
Also the art is amazing, it feels really authentic and alive, there are so many seemless details that make it gorgeous, congrats !
I just didn't get the s+k binding for the shield (why not just k ?), I have an AZERTY keyboard and the game has binding on virtual keys not physical ones so I can play with WASD (ZQSD for me) so I have to play with arrows and arrows + S + K is pretty much impossible.
