That's definitely a combat mechanic quite different from the usual. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet and keep dying constantly. Do the classes have significant differences between them?
Classes have significant difference mostly in the early game. For example, Illusionist toys with jesters a lot more, which probably grants them the most advantage later, but can be a harder start for new players. But later on, all classes should generally converge towards a pretty versatile deck.
I can confirm the game is possible, and pretty consistently, if you know what you're doing.
