Where are the saves located? I recently updated to 0.980-win and literally have hundreds of saves at this point (why no ability to save over previous saves or a quicksave slot?) Starting a new game is fine, but what about all the space used up by saves I will never use again? Where are those so I can just delete them from the drive? There is a directory in /game/saved that appears to have *.save files but even when these are deleted and the game is reloaded, the saves are still available. I don't want them available.

On Windows they are in AppData/Roaming/RenPy/SchoolGame
To get there press Win + R and then type %AppData% and hit Enter. You'll also find saves for other games in that RenPy folder if you ever need them or want to clear them out.
In case you cannot find them, try AppData/Local/RenPy (this depends on your user permissions).
On other platforms I'm not sure where they are stored. :(
