Random UI quirk: I had the Marble Foot, in my active items, went to the fountain, and at first thought I didn’t get an item. Then I realized I’d heard the upgrade clank, so I’d gotten an item that immediately merged. That meant I didn’t get to see which item it was, and I’m still not quite sure which item it was.
