I know that some people have played on Linux without any issues, so it's hard for me to give any tips on how to fix that.
Especially since my exposure to Linux is close to zero nowadays.
I use fully up to date arch and the error appear with both bottles and default wine :/
Have you tried using steam's proton? Setting up compatibility and using proton experimental usually works for me
