why are there so many ai images
I sure hope it’s not AI, otherwise I’d like my 70+ hours back from creating all of it 😅
I can see how the art style I chose for this and the fact that I did not use pixel perfect camera, which makes the pixels all wonky and blended.
But I can assure you that the artwork was created by me. As an example, here’s the process I used to create the rubber duck from the shop UI using gimp as my choice of pixel art tool.
- Step 1: Start with a basic shape
- Step 2: Add the base colors
- Step 3: Shading
This is usually where I leave things for the duration of early development. After that, my process becomes much more experimental and involves a lot of trial and error.
- Step 4: try different realistic textures
- Step 5: Experiment with filters such as sharpening and pixelization
- Step 6: Adjust colors and light levels
- Step 7: Manually polish and fix the end result from all the filters.
Also it’s a good trick is to use symmetry to duplicate parts of the pixelart rather than drawing the same thing twice.

No worries, I do absolutely see and agree how it does share the same “soulless” feeling to an AI picture, as all the textures and filters turn it into random noise and remove the character and charisma you get when drawing everything by hand.
I just wanted to experiment with this style for a game jam. Perhaps in the future it’s better to stick to the normal shaded pixelart, we’ll see.
