I know it's been six years but, assuming you're still active and willing to work on this, could I request being able to set a name for the party member specifically within the menu? i.e: shortening something like "Longwinded Name The Fifth" to just "Long"

I guess you're in luck since I've been able to resume my wor on RM a few months ago. That can be done, but probably not before September at best.
I'm currently working on releasing a full Suikoden themed suite of plugins by the end of the month. And I have another big plugin project already in the pipeline.
