I was under the impression you were using the Ren'Py engine, which allows for web distributions. If not, then it makes sense it may not work from every game engine.

No, I am using that engine. Im just not familiar enough to all this stuff to know anything about it.
If you're using Ren'Py, then you can build a web distribution using the launcher using the buttons shown in the red box. You should definitely experiment more with the engine as you develop your game to get a real sense of all the tools available to you. There's a lot you can do with the logic and math around the default systems!
