I understand the hate a lot of people have for this game and its dev. Playing a game that’s nearing its climax and then being left with radio silence for nearly a year will make you lose trust in a dev. Finding out the game had to be reworked due to coding issues, and then seeing that most of the rework’s demo is almost unrecognizable from the game you’ve played and supported will make you lose trust in a dev. Hearing promises that the game will continue development and return to the point it was originally in a matter of months, only for those months to go by with even more radio silence will make you lose trust in a dev. On top of this, things outside the dev’s control like SubscribeStar banning ANY mind control will make you lose faith that the game could EVER be the same as the one you originally played and loved. I understand why people are mad, and in many ways, I think they’re right to be so. (Except for some bad faith arguments in these comments which I think go a little overboard).
But after following this game for so long and seeing everything it has gone through, if there’s one thing I believe, it’s that the Arc cares about it. I feel even more confident in saying this after reading the most recent update log. If he didn’t care, I think he would have given up on it when the amount of bugs caused by updates became overwhelming and he had to restart. Or when he released the rework that people were disappointed with. Or even after he’s been silent on here for several months and nearly every comment with a positive number of upvotes is cooking him and the game.
I’m not defending every decision Arc has made. I think he’s made mistakes, especially regarding communication, and I’d bet that he’d say the same. But he’s come back and reaffirmed that he’s STILL going to try his hardest to bring back the characters, locations, interactions, etc. from the previous game, and is wanting to hear from the audience about what they want from it going forward. He’s still wanting to make Corrupted Kingdoms, and wanting to make sure it’s the Corrupted Kingdoms that his players want. Granted, he’s said similar things to this already at the start of this year, and I imagine many people will think it won’t turn out any different than then. I mean, heck, I wrote a post similar to this one at that time too. But what gives me hope is just the fact that he hasn’t given up in spite of almost everything about this game being against his favor.
I don’t blame people if they disagree with me. Maybe I’m just naive. But I hope that things will work out this time as the game moves forward, and hopefully some of that broken trust can be rebuilt overtime.
