It does work. I just tried it. By default Denise doesn't speed up disk loads, so it takes about 20 seconds to get into the main menu and a few minutes to load the game, all with a black screen.
If you go to C64/Miscellaneous and turn on Autowarp, then turn off Disk: first file only, it will load much faster.
