No, it's not them actually, though I can see why someone might think that. That note was written way before these were even conceptualized. In general every creature in the game, past, present, and future, should be playable one day. I am not one for half measures, at least destination wise.
These drones are synth lizard and they are machines designed to correct behavior of other creatures through their hypnotic fluid, roughly speaking. Some general idea of their gameplay will be to walk around the facility and pacifying creatures that escaped like goo wolves, but also correcting drones, and maybe performing some maintenance, but maybe that will be another creature. I am not going to run out of ideas anytime soon.
