You've told this story very effectively in 1000 words, giving us good hints about the world and our main characters' past and tribulations, and what specifically is happing to them... Very poignant writing! Beautiful background, and the 3D models used as sprites were very effective!
Nothing I'd really consider mistakes spotted, if anything just small tweaks that might improve your UI a bit, but it's really solid for your first time! Well done!
