I was going near infinite (Score 658500) but the second time the fire boss appeared The temperature went too high almost immediately and I died. Can you never get to 0 without taking damage? Am I misunderstanding the mechanic or is this intentional?

Well the intentional way to beat it would be to go up as fast as you can during that "temperature" attack to stay above the number it has and wait it out(around 45 seconds). But we are aware this mechanic of the boss is not clear or well executed so we are currently overhauling the fire boss for the next update.
