Sorry for the delayed response. 

I've been thinking about this a lot, and I don't really have a good answer. I think part of what interested me in the idea was that I was almost expecting a puzzle game similar to 2048, but the physics of splitting was hard to control, so trying to bounce things or merge them back together always felt a bit tedious. I think that was the main drain for me.
