There may still be recoverable save data on your computer. Please follow the steps below carefully.
1. Completely close the game
Make sure the game is not running.
If you use Steam Cloud or another cloud-sync service, temporarily disable synchronization or disconnect your PC from the internet during recovery. This prevents the recovery files from being overwritten by cloud data.
2. Back up the entire save folder
Copy the entire folder containing the save files to another location, such as your Desktop.
Do not continue until this backup has been created. Keep the original files unchanged and use copies during the recovery process.
3. Show file extensions
In Windows File Explorer, open **View** and enable **File name extensions**.
You should be able to see extensions such as `.json`, `.bak`, and `.TMP`.
4. Create a holding folder
Inside the current save folder, create a new folder named:
Recovery_Hold
Make sure the game is closed, then move all of the following files from the current save folder into `Recovery_Hold`:
savegame_v2.json
savegame_v2.bak
savegame_v2.tmp
savegame_v2.json~RF1289422.TMP
Files beginning with savegame_pre_v2_
savegame.json
savegame.bak
Do not move the `Unity` folder or the `Player` and `Player-prev` files.
5. Try recovering from the TMP file
First, copy the following file from `Recovery_Hold`:
savegame_v2.json~RF1289422.TMP
Place the copied file in the original save folder, then rename the copied file to:
savegame_v2.json
Make sure the original TMP file remains safely stored in `Recovery_Hold` or your backup folder.
Start the game and check whether your previous progress has returned.
6. If the recovery worked
If the correct progress is displayed, save the game once from within the game and then close it.
Afterward, copy the entire recovered save folder to another location and name it something like:
GuildLifeTap_Recovered_Save
If cloud synchronization later asks you to choose between cloud data and local data, select the newer recovered **local data**.
7. If the TMP file did not work
Close the game.
If the game created new `savegame_v2.json` or `savegame_v2.bak` files in the original save folder, remove them before testing the next candidate.
Copy one of the following files from `Recovery_Hold`, rename the copy to `savegame_v2.json`, and start the game again.
Please test the files in this order:
1. savegame_v2.bak
2. savegame_pre_v2_20260801-000707-627.json
3. savegame_pre_v2_20260801-000707-627.bak
4. savegame.bak
5. savegame.json
You do not need to edit the contents of a `.bak` file.
For example:
savegame_v2.bak
↓ Copy and rename the copy
savegame_v2.json
Each time you test another candidate, follow this order:
1. Close the game.
2. Remove any savegame_v2 files created during the previous test.
3. Copy the next recovery candidate.
4. Rename the copied file to savegame_v2.json.
5. Start the game and check the progress.
Important Notes
- Do not overwrite the original files directly.
- Do not delete any recovery candidates. Always work with copies.
- Do not modify save files while the game is running.
- Do not continue playing for an extended period while testing a candidate.
- Keep cloud synchronization disabled until recovery is complete.
- Once you find the correct save data, you do not need to test the remaining files.
