I really like the creative take here. I tried to play it, but I don't think I'm totally understanding it. Here's how it went:

  1. I rolled a D20 until I hit a brawl
  2. I rolled a 5 on my first roll - Rogue. I assume the terrain types are the rectangles vs. the ovals. So I move from space 1 to Space 4
  3. I rolled a 2 on my second roll - Brawl. There are no enemies to brawl nor are there scouts on the board
  4. I rolled a 6 on my Cursed D6 roll. The game is over, I can rest, I have saved the village.

Either I did a good job (or got lucky) or I fundamentally misunderstood something. I've reread the instructions and I don't see anything about adding swarms/scouts to the board before you start, so when I rolled Brawl basically right away, there was nothing to battle. I suspect maybe I'm missing something.

Either way, cool idea. I just think it could use a little more clarity or more detail in how to set up the board before you start.

Thank you so much for the feedback! And yes I will be editing wording for clarity (and terrain types doh my bad) but you played the game the way it should be.
In resume, yeah you got super lucky. Imagine you are wandering the valleys where there are supposed to be creatures appearing. Bow in hand, attentive. You climb a couple hills and traverse some ditches, but you come empty handed. Bad luck? No. This means this people are safe, but you still need to find these creatures, you owe it to everyone you didn’t protect.

So what do you do? You keep wandering and get to a next location carrying the banner of the shamed hero…

oh and I do have the Nightmare mode expansion for it. I was just crunching time so decided to go with the basic game. Nightmare mode allows you to join the scouts, get their weapons , a boss battle and some more. But first need to get out my Onepagerpg for that jam as well
