For the net I messed around quite a lot with unity fabric and didn't get a good effect, so I ended up automatically generating a grid of objects connected with Unity's spring. With a bit of fine tuning (and a script that glues the player to the net) it ended up working pretty well :)

I imagine that for a process in which performance is more of a consideration this wouldn't be a good solution tho.
