This worked perfectly and the score actually climbed. I hit 1415pt and got the hand written red "New HighScore!" screen, which is immediately satisfying.
The high contrast black and white look, white platforms on a dotted black background, is clean and very readable. That's the exact opposite of the problem a lot of entries in this jam have, so it's worth calling out. Having a separate TUTORIAL button in the main menu next to Play is care I wish more people showed. The HUD is discreet and useful, three hearts on the left for lives, combo multiplier and score on the right, without blocking your view. And the end screen is just two big icons, a house and a restart arrow. Zero text, instant understanding, and the restart actually works, which several entries here got wrong. The little white pixel character with the blue patches has charisma too.
Three notes. I never actually saw the monster the game is named after. I died or finished before that, so the tension of being chased, which is the hook, passed me by entirely. The grey blocks with yellow stripes (traps?) don't have an obvious danger language, red would read faster. And the camera sometimes leaves the character pinned to the right edge, which cuts your reaction time for what's coming.
Runs smooth, well executed, makes you want another go. Recommended. On the end of life side, "update it into 2.0" is a roadmap rather than a preservation plan, so it might be worth saying explicitly what happens to this version.
