A very creative idea, well executed, and great with the theme. Nice work!
Only some minor nitpicking: If you stack shots or twin shots, they seem to spawn at exactly the same time. It would be cool if the sprites do not overlap, so you clearly see all the separate projectiles that spawn. (and watch out with multiple projectile-sounds playing at the same time)
