Very smooth platforming! Were you inspired by Super Marios' "!" blocks? Enjoyed it very much, and the 3D creature that starts chasing you is really cool. How did you achieve it, Is it done with a subviewport?

Hi, I worked on the creature -- it's done with a subviewport of a 3D scene, yes! It was pretty difficult to set it all up to calculate the correct transforms between the 2D 'world' and the 3D 'world'. Ultimately we had it move around in the XY plane in 3D, following the coordinates of its invisible 2D counterpart, and turning the heads to look towards an invisible 3D counterpart to the 2D player. We just attached the SubViewportContainer to the creature's 2D node itself and made sure the 3D camera was always centered on the 3D creature, so it would always render in the same place as its hurtbox.
I was surprised at how finnicky it was to set up, honestly. We've done similar things of blending 2D and 3D graphics in custom-engine projects before, and it's much simpler when your 2D rendering pipeline is all in 3D already, but Godot seems to keep 2D/3D pretty separate, for better or for worse. I wonder if there might be plugins to help do so more easily?
