Interesting minigame! I had a problem where i had to press esc and then I couldnt move anymore because the game didn't grab the mouse pointer anymore.
Thanks for the feedback. I realised are submission that itch has also dedicated escape, so it triggers on the web page first. If you press it again it should open the pause menu correctly.
