I don't understand what part of this implements the theme.

understandable, it's a bit of thinker actually. the game pop in to my head when hearing the theme was plant vs zombies. for me it has the "slow burn" of gameplay when the damn sunflower not giving me sun for a cherry bomb. that's how I enterpret it.
