I agree with you - I was thrown off my immersion during the argument story as well. Maybe it's my perspective now as an adult, but I didn't see any reason to be so worked up about it. I think overall the kids were treated maybe too much like children for a lot of the story, but it's also kind of a nice family dynamic to have such present parents.
