I’m not entirely sure since I haven’t redone the novel from the beginning, but from what I could see, you make several choices up to the point with that specific scene where if you have a certain value of points, it presents you with that option. I’m not sure if you’re locked into choosing that (except in my case I think I encountered a bug due to me playing on an old save that required me to bypass it). But if you don’t want the top ending (which is yet to be seen whether it necessarily is a bad outcome down the line), it seems you need to try to make choices that will enable you to try to overcome hangups.
