This is not a real SNES game or real rom, it is just a regular (modern-day) game aesthetically stylized as if it was an older emulated game. 

Yeah, that way it makes much more sense. So the Emulator-Part is just sort of the style n for presentation.

Yes, exactly. It is also sort of a part of the bigger narrative continued in Basilisk 2000, the next game (which is also stylized as if made around 1999), and SNESi game is set 10 years prior to that so it looks even older. But both are modern-day-made games.
