Yes, you can only carry 2 times your strength in pounds. The game was counting stacks of objects as just a single object. So this is more correct, unfortunately. Glad you got it sorted out.

You can carry a fair bit. You just have to be careful about boxes, coffers, weapons, and armour. And piles of gold.
