Thank you for the thoughtful reply! I too undergo excursions on itch.io for indie games thanks to ManlyBadassHero fostering some interest in them for me. I see some of what you're saying. There's a question of whether Lee's original invitation, in violation of the societally expected patient/doctor relationship, was ever appropriate at all. Maybe the sheer escalation of offering as much as he did, in shelter and his sudden openness is a cause for alarm? I suppose I just felt that the intricacies of social dynamics in such sensitive and vulnerable areas of mental illness through the lens of modern neurodivergent folks was better than doubling down the ideas of trust given then broken was more compelling. Also doesn't help that it gives Silence of the Lambs vibes in accidently casting certain groups in a negative light. Regardless, it's still at least a good game in my eyes, thanks for the discussion. About Lee's escalation: this is why I view this game as a "great horror story but an unfortunately missed opportunity to explore this under-represented, very complex ,dehumanised , dynamic of relationships and own struggles from a neurodivergent perspective, which, frustratingly enough, it was doing already very well" as you have pointed out here briefly too.
The game was very mature and very humane in its depiction and, well, because of this I chucked Lee's action here as something redeemable, very specific to that very context.
She(they?) needed somewhere to crash out.
This gesture was explainable and understandable but also a bit odd ,
this is why it is a great plot twist for a horror story where trust-is-given-then-broken, which it did pan out to be, yet. just such a slapstick, tongue-in-cheek aversion, to the aversion of stereotypes the game raised my hopes so high to be.
anyways, sorry for restating what already was stated, I too agree that the game was good
