NEW EDIT: Truenames
"Truenames are powerful lore in Folke, giving power through ancient laws over the Named being by those who utter it aloud. It is in the language of Creation itself (‘Dia’, which is not learnable by mortals), of which the world of Folke is formed.     All beings have Truenames, though most will never know what theirs is (unless they hear it uttered and they become compelled). A Truename should come from investigation, exploration, and rites (involving blood).

When translated, the Truename is a description of the creature as it truly is, derived from deeds and events before the age of 13. A Truename isn't just words, It's a story describing the being. Every defining story moment allows the Narrator to secretly alter your completed Truename with another letter or sound added.     A Truename doesn’t give absolute control: Knowing a Fey's Truename forces honesty, prevents deception, or compels it. A Fey learning a Characters’ Truename makes them vulnerable to compulsions, curses, and summons—the Narrator will flesh out whatever is the lore that makes their story what they desire it to be. Suggested mechanics are:

Truenames are found in fragments that have power if known, even if not uttered aloud.

  • 1 fragment = Right of Hearth — The Fey needs permission to cross your threshold.
  • 2 fragments = Right of Parting — The Fey must allow you to leave peacefully once.
  • 3 fragments = Right of Guise — The Feys’ Glamour is always seen through.

Speaking a Truename grants the speaker one of the following compulsions.

  • The being must answer one question honestly.
  • The being must reveal one hidden intention.
  • The being must agree to fulfill one deed before the following dawn.   For the purpose of the story, a being may choose to refuse a Compulsion at a cost (permanent loss of VP for mortals, loss of powers or banishment for Fey)
