[Art] [Visual Novel] [Unpaid] Looking for beginner/amateur artist for an already playable horror visual novel

Hi everyone,

First, I want to acknowledge something: I know that asking artists to contribute to a project for free can be frustrating or even feel disrespectful. Art takes time and effort, and I completely understand that.

Because of that, I'm not looking for a professional artist willing to illustrate an entire game for free. I don't currently have a budget, and I'm mainly looking for a beginner, amateur artist, or someone who would simply enjoy experimenting and seeing their work inside a real game project.

Even just one or two pieces of artwork would already mean a lot. It could be:

  • a background
  • a character portrait
  • a small illustration
  • or anything you'd personally enjoy drawing

The amount of work would completely depend on what you're comfortable doing.

I'm currently developing Trust Me, a psychological horror visual novel built in Ren'Py. The story is finished and the game already has a fully playable prototype available on itch.io.

The current visuals were created as temporary assets to prototype the game and establish its atmosphere. I would now love to gradually replace some of these elements with original illustrations and give the project a stronger visual identity.

The atmosphere I'm aiming for is:

  • psychological horror
  • tension and discomfort rather than gore
  • loneliness
  • mystery
  • subtle unease and ambiguity

The art style is completely open. I'm not expecting professional-quality work, and a unique amateur style could honestly fit the game very well.

If you're a beginner artist looking for a small project to practice on, build a portfolio piece, or simply see your art implemented in a game, feel free to send me a message.

Of course, you would receive full credit for your work.

Hello! I'm an artist (primarily character art) currently looking for work I can include in my portfolio. I'd be more than happy to work with you!

Here is my portfolio: https://tombjuice.xyz/portfolio

Let me know if you'd be interested in working together!

Hi! You can make animations for games too?

Hi tombjuice!

Love your style! Would you be interested in learning more about my project? Currently looking to get intro character art for 4 ROs.
The game will be revshare, so there's potential monies your way if you'd like to link a kofi/something similar(you will absolutely be getting an artist credit as well).

i added you!

Hello there! I was wondering if you're still looking for an artist? I'm considering joining since I do want to see my art in a game. Aside from a few details I'd like to give my feedback on, "Trust Me" looks very promising! I noticed that you used AI generated images for your sprites and backgrounds. How much of it do you want an artist to replace them? More importantly, if I work with you as an artist, will I be guaranteed my work will not be fed to AI?

Hello, of course I’m still looking for an artist. Your comment about the game makes me happy and that’s good if it could be a good opportunity for you to participate in its creation. Obviously, your work will never be linked to AI. I insist that it’s only a prototype and that’s why I want to move on to the next level with a real artist to supervise the project and make it truly human.
