I think the story elements definitely could be interesting if you developed it strongly. I think my biggest issue may be in the art style as it feels like two different style between characters and background that in a style of game like this needs to be on point. As for the rest of the game I think as long as you have enough time to do everything and make it a sizable game it could definitely do something.
