This is one of the last May Wolf entries I read last night as I was trying to finish as many of them as I could before the voting period is over. While I'm still missing a handful of entries, this turned out to be my personal favorite!
There is quite a lot of setup in this story and I'm not 100% sure it all pays off. While I had a blast reading through this, at the very end I was left wondering if the ending was rushed due to jam constraints or if some of the subtext flew over my head. Considering how purposeful everything feels up until the end, I'm going to bet on the latter: this might require a second read and for me to put on media analysis glasses. Regardless, the journey was delightful: just like the art in the VN, the characters and their interactions are just sketched with a gently hand, but I was immediately drawn in.
Speaking of the art, its amount is impressive and the sketch-like style not only works, but is given justification and meaning in the text. I am guessing some of the sketches are a bit more sketchy than intended because of time constraints, but this does not blemish the experience.
