I think you're doing a novel, interesting thing here, but I'm still wrapping my head around it.

The d6 system makes sense, and I follow the character creation, but the flow of a cycle is a bit unclear.

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

  • A Song is a longer campaign of many sessions.
  • A Verse is a single scenario, probably played in a session. The Redactor at the beginning of the verse states the general challenge, and offers characters for the players to embody.
  • The players then work through the scenario as their characters, rolling dice to resolve uncertainty.
  • After the verse, the players write unshared notes on what happened, or what they think is about to happen? These notes are used to construct the poem.
  • Players only act in one verse? Meaning you need new players for further verses?
  • After the last verse is played, the redactor uses the secret notes to compose a final mythic epic and shares it with the group.

Ok yeah I need to preface by saying that this is my first time working in the One-Page RPG space, and that the rules presented here are sort of a cut down version of what I'm working so it's probably a little awkward because of that, and judging by your question I should probably tinker with the wording still on top of making an example one Song adventure.

But to clarify:

  • A Cycle is a longer campaign of many Songs
  • A Song is a set of scenarios (Verses*) that can take place over multiple sessions
  • The players in the Verse then work through the scenario as the characters they are embodying, rolling dice to resolve uncertainty, and basically Ebegging the uninvolved players to spend their fortune points on their success.
  • After each verse, the players involved write (can be unshared or shared) notes on what happened, or at least what they think happened. These notes are used to construct the poem. And they work together with the Redactor to recontextualize the next scene and create new challenges or roleplaying limitations for the next group of players to abide by, as each player can only be involved in one Verse per Song.
  • After the last verse is played, the redactor uses the provided notes to compose a final mythic epic and shares it with the group and adds it to the Cycle.

*To clarify, a Verse is a scene basically with its own discrete playable characters (although they can be shared between verses and ideally should mostly be shared), a set amount of 'involved' players (as in, directly embodying a character), a vague description of what challenge they are likely to face/what the scene is overall about, and a set amount of Fortune Points you get just from choosing to be in this one (in the page it's earliest gets lowest, first is 1, second is 2, and so on)
