But seriously, I found this to easily be one of the most gripping stories I've read from the Jam yet; enhanced by the excellent use of background photos to set the mood, alongside the absolutely phenomenal art direction with the sprites and CGs- the CGs, especially, were a major delight with their dream-like quality.
Just about every single scene felt like there was purpose behind it, as we slowly watched Raimondo, Federico and Anna's relationships unfold and unravel with each passing moment. However, I do wish we got to see more of Anna. I found her to be the most interesting character of the trio, simply by how unique she was when standing next to the two boys- both in appearance and personality- and I especially think her relationship with Rai could've been explored way more, before they go their separate ways as "suddenly friends." I think Rai makes an off-handed comment about how him and her went and talked about her feelings, right before Fede came back to spill his guts to Rai- and honestly, I assumed we might cut to a sort-of flashback, to see how their relationship developed more, right before Anna leaves the house, but that never manifested. Admittedly, I might've misunderstood what Raimondo was saying, but regardless.... waiter, waiter, more Anna please.
I also liked that the main music pieces used throughout the game were piano- calling back to the first time that Anna felt feelings for Federico was when she saw him happily playing the piano in college- but I do wish that there were a couple more music pieces used throughout. There were just a lot of scenes in complete silence that I think would've benefited from either another music track or more sound effects. Overall, though, that never hindered my enjoyment with the game.
I don't really have anything else to add. I would've liked more of a resolution between Anna and Fede, but watching the sun rise over the horizon was just such a romantic visual, that I will forgive it. Really though, I just wanted to see more in general, because I thoroughly enjoyed reading By the End of the Night.
