I have two PDFs that I believe you wrote for the Mecha Hack called Interstellar Arms Race and Experimental Tech. My friends and I have been using them in our campaigns for several years now, and they've added a lot to our games.

I recently tried to find them again, but I couldn't figure out where I originally got them from. Searching online didn't turn up anything anymore, it almost seemed like they disappeared from the internet. That was until I noticed that Experimental Tech was mentioned on this page!

I was wondering if you'd ever consider releasing these PDFs again so more people in the community could enjoy them.

Hi, thank you for the message, I had no idea anyone even used them. I haven’t released them since something peculiar happened along the way which left me sour on the whole concept.

I was contacted by Matt Click on reddit after making them and sharing them with the Absolute Tabletop team and he offered to pay me for the rules and perhaps offer me a job, I wrote back excitedly saying I’d love to, and the guy then ghosted me and didn’t respond to any further messages.

I was devastated and confused, was this because Mission Manual was around the corner? I had no idea. I stopped playing and haven’t made any projects that size since. As someone whose dream it was to make games for a living, I felt that like a slap in the face and was very disheartened.

The group I was playing with (including the guy who contributed some abilities to Experimental Tech) fell apart and I lost contact with them. I wouldn’t feel right publishing the rules without his say so, but its been so many years I can’t even remember which parts he contributed to remove them.

Interstellar Arms Race and Experimental Tech were shared with people in the Black Hack and Absolute Tabletop discords back in the day. I’m proud of the rules I wrote for them as I wanted the on-foot sections to be as meaningful and easy as the mecha sections, as that was how I ran the game from session one. I can say with certainty that you’ve played more sessions with them than I ever did, and if you think they’re good enough to keep you going for so many years I’m very touched you reached out.

Can I ask if you ever used the Verona setting? I pictured it as like the Normandy from the Mass Effect games. I think the rest of the setting was obviously the Absolute Tabletop factions with thte serial numbers filed off since they asked me to do so lol.

Thanks again, sorry I couldn’t give you better news.
