There doesn't appear to be any benefit to actually moving

I'm not certain, but I think that your units regenerate if they stay out ofcombat long enough to turn from white back to blue. If so, that would mean that as long as your units are individually tougher than the enemies, it's to your advantage to dart in, take a bunch of non-lethal damage but destroy a lot of enemies, then back off to regenerate before repeating the process.

There's also some times when there are two separate enemy groups, usually red and orange (might be hard to tell depending on your monitor), who will fight each other if you evade them but if you stay in between you need to fight both simultaneously.

Hooo thanks for the feedback on the hard to tell. I will tweak the colors !
There is no regen for the moment, but having a local majority will help your particles so placement somewhat plays a role.

It's position based, so having a local majority gives you and advantage. There are also the multi factions fight that pretty much forces you to move

But I am considering adding velocity to the damage equation too.

And maybe zones

Of course this should be explained better

Edit : Also, taking the swarms 1 by 1 gives a big advantage

Thanks for trying it out !

That's addressed :)
