good news! ive been able to reproduce the problem by running the windows exe with proton (lol) i just gotta see whats causing it

it would appear that it happens on both linux and windows (idk why i didnt think it would). and it seems to happen after pausing the game for like a minute or two... if i cant find a solution i might have to stop the game from pausing every time the menu is shown, which isnt so bad because of the checkpoints and its uhh short runtime

the problem is solved! turns out the changeling steam debuff was just not resetting after the game over in the final chase and had nothing to do with the menu, and such, you practically have invisible changelings letting off steam that you cant take off lol
