Rain of fathers looks to be a very promising start to a much larger story, that was prematurely cut short due to the Jam's time limit. Even then, I think that what's here is still very impressive; despite the somewhat simple premise of two people from different walks of lives coming together to make a perfect whole, the story was able to keep me focused on the adorable relationship between Roberto and Jacob. I also think that the art is a major highlight. The sprites and CGs, despite the limited number of them, were very evocative. I was especially a fan of Jacob in front of the pale moon, that was a very cute CG. I also thought that it was really cool to see how both of their designs evolved with their age, and it gave it the feeling of watching my RPG Party Members changing classes lol.
The relationship between Jacob and Roberto is really fun; I love that it's almost like a 'destined lovers' thing due to the titular Rain of Feathers festival, but you genuinely feel a sense of familiarity that the two share with each other from nearly every piece of dialogue. They're cute and you can tell they're already friends, it's a great start. The overall writing, however, I think needs a bit more flair. What's here right now serves as a great base to work off of, but there were a couple moments where both the dialogue and descriptions felt a bit dry. I also think that both of the main characters feel a bit "standard" when on their own- a beefy warrior wolf and the smart mage crow- and I think they need a unique character trait or two that'll separate them from the endless sea of mages and warriors in fiction.
The folklore choice was excellent as well, I haven't seen many stories tackle The Rainbow Crow, so this was a nice change of pace to make the story feel more unique. I like that the in-universe myth is essentially what kicks off the entire story between Roberto and Jacob, and I'm sure that there's probably a hidden truth about the myth, which will cause some ramifications in the narrative.
I'm curious to see how this one ends, I'm sure it's gonna be great!
