Hello there,

@Dragon’s Isle Software Sent me your way!

I was promised a banger with Root Warden and I have been given one!

I very much enjoyed playing the game!

Played for over an hour. Had to close once and restart from scratch.

The positives:

  • The gameplay loop is very cool. Building and defending simultaneously is great
  • The game looks great and everything flows nicely
  • I like the atmosphere and the progression of the game

My gameplay: Cleared around 5 levels on my first playthrough and 4 on my second. Had no problems yet, but could definitely see the difficulty increasing. My strategy was to place a lot of roots first and defend solely using droids, then once that got overwhelming I would place roots walls and towers in trios. This has worked out pretty well so far. I also pretty much stopped placing roots after I knew I only had to defend. I don’t know if I am missing something here or if there is an added advantage to rooting after you have a strong defense system? Because the objective is just to defend at that point. My droid loadout was as such: one droid with 2 shooter and 1 mining arm, 1 droid with exact opposite, and a patrol droid with only shooters.

I would constantly use the patrol droid as a camera and to move around and kill targets. Sometimes I leave him at vital spots as a tower.

Potential pointers for improvement:

  • When selecting an area, the ui window has three options - start mission, manage droid and return. It made me assume that each area has a separate droid economy that has to be managed.
  • Did not like that the camera was locked to the droids. It felt like we should have a gods eye view of the place and interact with various droids that way. The droids are also very passive when you leave them, meaning they do not auto mine at all. My assumption was that if they are at a stone mine and various stones are close to each other, they will continue mining, but this was not the case. Whenever I am controlling a droid, the other two are essentially idle towers or just idle. Makes me always feel like I am doing something inefficiently. all in all would definitely appreciate the bots to seek out the closest rocks in a cluster.
  • I was not paying attention to resources much at all, just what I could and could not build. (Don’t know if this is a plus or a minus based on the loop you are going for)

I enjoyed the game overall, I can see what you are going for and can envision some of the updates that the game will have in the future, like different bodies and weapons for droids, more building units, resources and so on.

If you have any other questions do let me know. I will be following the development of this game! Good luck on your dev journey.
