I wish I could keep playing, but it seems that, on my play through, I was silica gated during phase 2 and unable to progress in a timely fashion. I'll run through some of my thoughts while I was progressing:
"Wow, hydrogen is useless! I have so much of it with only, like, two upgrades!"
"Huh, my storages are huge! Cheap, too!"
"Why would I ever upgrade my probes? There's not enough marginal return compared to just having cheaper probes."
"Why is the extraction probe allocator daemon not sending probes out as soon as a planet only has returning probes and none actively mining?"
"Actually, why does the daemon not have any dials I can turn to configure it, so that I can choose when it sends out a probe, if, for instance, I wanted to double cover all planets of a certain type?"
"Why is carbon so early in the tech tree if I still haven't seen it?"
"Why does the developer think that +2% increase for exponentially more compute cycles per upgrade is worth caring about?"
"Why am I no longer able to micromanage and improve my home system's output? I'd quite like to see if everything is being automated in an efficient manner."
"Why is the entire first phase completely nullified, including my extraction probe re-usability research? Actually, why is it a mechanic if it just disappears 30 minutes later? That's hardly progression between phases if half of the previous phase's optimization and complexity is wiped clean like the Abrahamic flood."
"Wow, hydrogen is still useless! I have so much of it even with the same two upgrades from thirty ago!"
"What the hell does "upgrade processor" cost?"
"Oh! It costs silica...And only silica? It has plenty of metal, and my processor costed prime matter, so why is it specifically a different resource and only that resource?"
"It's been 11 000 ticks and I still haven't gotten a single rebate from any of my three settlements."
"Interesting choice to make it so that I have to wait on some machine to decide when and how it should improve itself until it dares to deign itself open for resource extraction."
"How can you can create a cargo ship that can only send things in one direction?"
"It's been 22 000 ticks and I still haven't gotten a single rebate from any of my five settlements."
"Wow, hydrogen is -- I'm almost out?! I guess I'll research that 10 times multiplier..."
"Wow, hydrogen is already full again. It's been like 20 seconds."
"It's been 29 000 ticks and I still haven't gotten a single rebate from any of my seven settlements and five relays."
"Allllllright: I spent 50 000 ticks total and I'm soft time-walled. I'm not gonna spend another 50 000 ticks gathering 200 000 PM. I quit."
"Holy shit! I finally got a settlement after 31 000 ticks! You can actually use cargo transports!"
"I'd still really rather be able to have more granularity in automation than two mutually-exclusive buttons."
"Wow, they're so slow. This just feels like a time-wall -- wait, you can't use multiple cargo ships? ...Why?"
I suppose the game shows its (lack of) age, and could use a bit more tuning. Overall, I enjoyed most of phase 0/1, and while the dialogue sagged in places, it was effective enough.
