Sadly, this version refuses to create any nodes no matter how much I double-click. I tried both Firefox and Chrome.

Thanks for letting me know! It is currently set up to accept finger taps if touchscreen is enabled which would disable the doubleclick from pc.
Are you using a pc that also has touchscreen by any chance? If so, i can fix that and upload a new version.
If its not that, did you download the file or were you running it from itch.io's run in browser option?

It includes:
- less brittle empty-canvas targeting for double-click node creation
- desktop double-click no longer disabled just because the browser reports touch capability
- Shift+D toggles node-creation debug logging (copy this and send it back here if it's still giving you trouble)
