You're asking the right question, and unfortunately I veer the other way. Transposing such a straightforward 3D environment to a 2D map doesn't feel enticing to me. Maybe things get more interesting past the first doors, but I didn't get that far.

Which is to say that it does get more interesting, but very much in a "draw a map" way.  If you're not looking to map out a 3D space, then no, it won't get any more interesting. :-)
