Hi,

I guess, this is inspired by Into the Breach? It's a wonderful adaption! I played it today with my son.

I love the simple base rules that are "extended" by the abilities of the units. It's exactly what I was looking for as a game to play on vacation.

I also like the look of the models a lot. Now, I have to learn to paint them :-D

I've a two questions:

1. In the rules, you say that the special abilities are activated instead of a regular activation. I'd interpret this in a way that movement before activation isn't allowed. But on the cards, it says "Instead of making a regular attack" which I'd interpret as, I can first move and do the special ability afterwards. What's the correct interpretation?

2. I'd explain line of sight a bit better in the rules. Is it the line from the center of the source cell to the center of the target cell? Or is it more like in One Card Dungeon where any corner has to have line of sight to any corner of the target cell?

And one small suggestion. To make the jump ability easier to see on the cards, on the stats, you could have an horizontal arrow for regular movement and a diagonal one (like now if the unit can jump).

I'm thinking about making a "pocket" version of it to more easily take it to the beach ;-)

Thanks for the great work!

Hannes

First of all thank you so much.... Alot of people seem to be playing this with their kids which honestly? Is awesome to hear!!!

As for your questions

1: unless stated otherwise in the card you can move and then use your ability, like with the hopper you could move 3 tiles, then leap on someone's head with it. With the exception of passive abilities or stuff like the wraiths countermeasures which are activated under special conditions. Abilities basically replace an attack action ^^

2: line of sight is from the center of your tile to the center of the attack tile.

You actually worded it better than me I might as well steal it for the rulebook

We played a couple more games. And my son (he is 9) even created his own faction. Painted the cards and paper figures. It was overpowered in the beginning, but I helped him balancing it a bit :-D

I'm not a game designer, and I don't even play that many strategy board games. But one problem we faced sometimes is that we both went into defence after a couple of turns and whoever went out of defence had a disadvantage. Did you experience similar situations?

Hmm not really, then again I playtest this alot and know what each unit does by heart... Depending on the map layout they can royally screw balance tho.... That I honestly don't know how to fix... I gotta add an objective like a capture point or something on the center of the map.

Oh and I'd love to know more about the faction your son made! I'm actually working on an expansion

Good hint. The terrain might have been the problem. Probably, we created too big of a blocking area.

Most of his units have melee attacks with a special attack pattern with their swords :-)

We still have to play a couple of games to see if they are balanced. The first one is quite strong.

Tried to upload a photo here, but it didn't work. Will try later again.
