The aesthetics are wonderful! I’m not exactly sure what I’m supposed to do, other than keep spinning, though…

Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to expand the game loop. The original plan was to have coins fall and you'd have to click on them to keep them in the air, kind of like the cans in duck hunt, to raise your multiplier.
Over time, fans and other hazards would appear to shift the coins off course, more coins would fall at a time, and you could choose to bet on whether the wheel would land on red or black.
There was even thought of having to answer yes or no questions in order to keep the figure on the wheel in a good enough mood not to screw you over!
