Just played the demo.

This opening level could use some work but I see this is a game jam submission so you may have addressed the issues.

First, the major issue:

  1. The opening level is too dark. As in, I can barely make out what was going on in some places. If the goal was to make sniping at a distance untenable, the pixelation is already doing that for you. I didn’t even notice the green key.

Now on to the praise,

  1. Major Heretic vibes! It’s charming and I appreciated the fun-over-realism. Automatic crossbows are not a thing. Restringing a bolt every time you fire one would diminish the boomer-shooter energy.

  2. First person platforming is handled well. Pixel perfect jumps are not a good fit and you gave plenty of room to make the jumps I had to make.

  3. Secrets! I saw the armor pickup by virtue of symmetry and light. Not extremely obvious. Not too hard to find. Just right.

All in all, I think I am going to pick this up if I can find out if the lighting is adjusted or a lamp added. The screenshots are not as dark as the demo.
